Chester Fontaine LaMar, Jr., 97, of Eufaula, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020, at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Hospital. Chester was born on January 14, 1923, to Chester Fontaine Sr. and Marie Justine (Dickerson) LaMar. He attended grade school in California and at Herronville in Oklahoma City. Chester then attended high school at Capitol Hill and Stonewall Jackson in Oklahoma City, before receiving his G.E.D. On January 26, 1944, he married Mildred Dorothy Doussett, who preceded him in death on December 21, 2015. They were happily married for over seventy-one years. Chester enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944 and was honorably discharged in November of 1946. After being discharged, Chester worked for Optical Glass, then for Douglas and finally worked for the Ford Motor Company, all in California. In 1967, he and Mildred bought property in Eufaula, Oklahoma. He retired and they moved to Eufaula in 1978. Chester and Mildred traveled all over the United States. Toronto, Bangor, Maine, New York, Chicago, and Boston were a few of their favorite places to go. He was a member of the Eufaula Masonic Lodge #1, Shrines of Muskogee, the Eufaula VFW Post 8798, DAV Bedouins Shrine, McClowns and the McIntosh County Shriners. Survivors include: his son, Danny LaMar and wife Retta of Eufaula; grandchildren, Tammie of Tulsa and Crystal of Eufaula; four other grandchildren and two great grandchildren, Tatumn and Marina; and his brother-in-law, Fred Sohegian. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mildred LaMar and one sister, Betty Jean Sohegian.
