Charlotte was born on August 23, 1923, in Oneonata, Alabama, the daughter of Charley Thompson and Alma (Self) Epperson. She married Lee Bert Martin on October 26, 1949 in Oak Ridge, Alabama. After her marriage to Lee Bert Martin, Charlotte moved to California where they adopted their son Phillip Bert Martin. Charlotte and Bert raised foster children for a few years while Phillip was young. Charlotte was a cook for Monta Vista school in California. Charlotte and bert moved to Oklahoma in 1974. They bought a house in Bunny Creek. She spent many hours fishing on the Bunny Creek rocks catching crappie. She was an avid gardener. Charlotte loved to read, solve word puzzles and watch/solve puzzles on Wheel of Fortune. Charlotte served Meals on Wheels well in to her eighties. She often said "I've got to go feed the old people." She was also an active member of the VFW auxiliary, where she served steaks on Friday nights. She waitressed there until her early nineties, all while winning many a pool tournament. Charlotte was a very fiesty senior citizen. She would drive herself once a year to see her Alabama family until her early nineties. She loved to visit with Nancy and Dickey Phillips, Kenneth Epperson, Gary and Sue Sweatt, Valda St. John and Lisa St. John, and a host of others. She missed her brothers and sisters who preceded her in death. She loved her son, Phillip Martin and his wife Linda, grandkids, great grandkids, and all the Alabama family very much. She has three grandchildren: Heather, Brandy, and Andrew and his wife Erica. She has five great grandchildren, Blake, Zach, Hannah, Darrius and Octavia. She also loved Brenda Bumgarner like family, who cared for Charlotte for many years. Charlotte gave her heart to Jesus many years ago.
