Carmin Carter Taylor, Sr., 88, longtime resident of Eufaula and Checotah, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the Checotah Nursing Center, after a prolonged illness. Carmin was born on July 7, 1930 in Reichert, LeFlore County, Oklahoma to William Mitchell and Alice Maureen (Franklin) Taylor. On September 25, 1965, he married Cerelda "Trudy" Hester in Durant, Oklahoma. They were happily married for forty-seven years, before she preceded him in death in 2012. Carmin was an Army Veteran serving in the Panama Canal Zone, and completed two tours of duty in the Korean War. He then went on to be a policeman in Atlanta, Georgia for several years. Carmin moved back to Oklahoma to work on the Eufaula Dam during its construction. He eventually moved back to Moore and worked as a cement finishing foreman. Carmin moved to the Checotah area and established Taylor Construction Company, building custom homes, before retiring at the age of 79.Carmin was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and boating. Survivors include: children: Rebecca (Becky) Gail Helms and husband, Rodney, of Eufaula, OK; Carmin C. Taylor, Jr. and wife, Tammy, of Missouri; Debra Jo Potter and husband, Steven, of Checotah, OK; step daughters: Darlene Williford and husband, Don; and Judy Hart, both of Augusta, GA; sister, Evelyn Josephine Atkins, of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Rodney Helms and wife, Grace; Rusty Helms, Amanda, Ethan, Nick, and Mathew Taylor; Steven Potter and wife, Charlotte; Joseph Potter and wife, Samantha; Kassandra Potter; Blake Williford and wife, Jessica; April Waldron and husband, William; Austin Williford and wife, Rebecca; Greg and Kathleen Morris; and Cindy and Paul Canada; fifteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Mitchell and Maureen Alice (Franklin) Taylor; his wife, Cerelda "Trudy" Taylor; and sisters: Doris Levenia Blevins and Mary Wilberta (Bertie) Hicks.
