Bill Shackelford

Bill was born on July 17, 1944 in Poteau, Oklahoma to William Henry and Margie May (McClain) Shackelford. He attended Eufaula Public Schools. Bill worked for five years selling insurance for National Life Insurance in McAlester. On July 1, 1969, he married Maudie Louise Hughes, who preceded him in death on December 19, 2013.They were happily for forty-six years. Bill worked for twenty-nine years in the oilfield and twenty years overseas doing offshore and land drilling. He also worked as the District 2 County Commissioner for eight years, before retiring. Bill was a member of the Harmony Free Will Baptist Church. He was an avid OU Sooner football fan and loved all Ironhead sports. Bill enjoyed going to Colorado for elk trips, having coffee with Danny, and going with Maudie to their daughter"s house for cookouts on Friday nights. Survivors include: one son, Shannon Shackelford and wife, Leah, of Round Rock, TX; daughter, Susie Burns and husband, Alan, of Eufaula, OK; brother, George Shackelford, of Powell, WY; sisters: Wilda Strickland, of Eufaula, OK; Ann Campbell, of Eufaula, OK; Sharon Howell, of Wagoner, OK; sisters in-law, Glenda Shackelford; Lois Shackelford; and three grandchildren: Amanda, A.J., and Avery. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Margie Shackelford; his wife, Maudie Shackelford; brothers: Pete, Wendell, Harrell, Larry, and Roy; and one sister, Phyllis.
