BETTYLU HOLLEY - Born February 8, 1917 in Eufaula, OK to Clark and Daphene Nichols, passed away October 9, 2012 at the age of 95. She spent her childhood in Eufaula, graduating from Eufaula High School in 1934. She attended the University of Oklahoma where she met her future husband, Frank J. Vogel. They were married in 1937 and were married for 18 years until Frank's death in 1955. Bettylu married Richard Holley in 1959 and they were married for 24 years until Richard's death in 1983. Bettylu was preceeded in death by her parents, brothers, Clark Nichols, Jr. and John Bishop Nichols, an infant sister, and one daugher-in-law, Christina Vogel. She is survived by her two children, Judy Osburn (Warren) of Norman, OK and Frank Vogel, Jr. (Druan) of Durango, CO; four grandchildren, Jennifer Williams (Cary), Jason Vogel (Lori) of Dallas, TX, Michelle Bagley, Noble, OK, Amy Hoffman (Chris) of Tulsa, OK., seventeen great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Professionally Bettylu worked as a Deputy County Assessor in McIntosh County, OK, the Oklahoma Bar Association, and assistant to Hez Bussey, Judge on Oklahoma's Court of Criminal Appeals, Navajo Tribal office, Window Rock, AZ, and an art instructor at Lukachukai Navajo Boarding School, Lukachukai, AZ. In 1977 Bettylu returned to Eufaula, OK and was honored by the city of Eufaula for a life of volunteerism, including Meals on Wheels, Friends of the Library, President of the Art Club, and several civic activities. Bettylu was an accomplished artist with her paintings hanging in many homes. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Eufaula and sang in the choir. Bettylu's commitment to her faith, quiet determination, and special humor was and always will be an inspiration to the generations of family and friends she touched. Special thanks to the caregivers at Noble Health Care Center, Noble, OK for their attention to Bettylu for the last seven months.
