Betty Ann Colbert

Betty was born on April 3, 1942 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Thomas and Mattie Ruth (Curry) Jones. She was raised in Shawnee and attended college at the Oklahoma Baptist University. On November 9, 1962, Betty married Walter L. Grimes, who preceded her in death in 1998. They lived in Oklahoma City until 1972, when they moved to the Muskogee area. In 1976, they moved to Weleetka and later moved to Eufaula in 1981. She worked at Oklahoma Telephone and Telegraph (OTT) and retired from Cross Telephone Company. Betty was a member of the Fountainhead Area Improvement Council (FAIC) and The Women’s Auxiliary for seventeen years. She also worked thirteen years as a secretary and treasurer at the Bridgeport Homeowners Association. Betty later married Jesse “Spike” Colbert in 2008. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, garage sales, flea markets, her pets, and a good road trip. Survivors include: her husband, Jesse Colbert, of the home; sons, Richard “Rick” Grimes and wife, Denise; Marty Colbert and wife, Darla, of Guthrie, OK; Mike Colbert and wife, Teresa, of Oklahoma City, OK; daughters, Gayla Rowe and husband, Scott, of Oklahoma City, OK; Dayna Lee and husband, Tony, of Altus, OK; and two grandchildren, USAF Staff Sgt. Clinton Guthrie; and Bailie Grimes; eleven step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Walter L. Grimes; and parents, Thomas and Mattie Jones.
