Bertha Dell Black

Bertha D. Black, 91, passed away Wednesday, March 1st, 2023, in Checotah, OK. Bertha was born on April 30th, 1931, to Dennis and Ruth (Murphy) Thurman in Foss, OK. She attended Bower School in elementary and middle school. In 1948, she graduated from Canadian High School. Bertha married Albert A. Black on January 22, 1949, in Fame, OK and the two were married for almost fifty six years. She was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary.

Bertha is survived by her daughter, Denise Smith and husband Ken of Porum, OK; and son Albert Kent Black and wife Pat of Poteau, OK; seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and nine great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Black; her parents Dennis and Ruth Thurman; son, Gary Wayne Black; brother, Willis Thurman; and sister-in-law, Mary Thurman.
