Agnes Morris, 89, of Eufaula, OK went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, March 15, 2021. Agnes was the first-born child of Melva “Mutt” and Viola J. (Jones) McGuire. She arrived May 22, 1931, at Cedar Tree Place in Happy Hollow, Oklahoma. She grew up in Happy Hollow near Lenna and Red Hill near Hanna. She was saved during a two-week long revival at Lenna Baptist Church as a teenager. She was baptized in the creek called “10 Foot Hole” south of Lenna with a large group of young people that accepted the Lord as their Savior during that revival. When she was a young girl, she and one of her brothers were walking home from school when a dove landed on her hand. To her amazement, it stayed on her small hand until they reached home. In just a few minutes time, Agnes had become captivated by the dove which in turn created her need to collect them. During her lifetime she collected doves from nearly every state. This experience grew peace and love in her heart throughout her life. She married her first-love the day after she turned 18. Orace Ray Morris and Agnes were married May 23, 1949 in McAlester. After a brief time of living in California, they returned to Red Hill to make their home. Three children were born to this union. In October 1979, Agnes lost the love of her life when Orace passed away. As a young widow, she had to establish a new life for herself. She went to college and got her associates degree to work with the elderly when she was nearly 60 years old. She was employed as the Nutritionist Outreach Coordinator for McIntosh County for over 25 years, retiring in 2008. The Eufaula Community Center was her work home all those years and she continued to eat lunch and play Skip Bo with her friends as long as she was able. Agnes loved her family. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were one of the most important parts of her life. She was “Nannie” to the grands. She always had a song to sing them and a story to tell. She was a huge community supporter involved in many activities including politics. She took art classes and became an accomplished artist. Her specialty was “faces” as she said – portraits. Her portrait of her father won her Best of Show and Blue Ribbons. She loved writing poetry and was honored to have one of her poems shared at a work conference. Agnes is survived by her children: Greta Naples of Spring Hill, TN, Paul and Connie Morris of Eufaula and Jay and Paula Morris of Hudson, Florida; grandchildren: Steven Mullen of Columbia, TN, Micheal and Celena Mullen of Spring Hill, TN, Lori and Jason Rippy of Eufaula, Nathan and Angela Morris of Keys, OK, Rachel Morris of Eufaula, Shannon Dodson, Danielle and Chris Jackson and Whitney Morris all of Florida; three brothers, Earl and Pat McGuire of Eufaula, John and Carolyn McGuire of Glenpool, OK, Glen and Alice McGuire of Waurika, OK; nine great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orace, her parents, two brothers, Cleran “Bud” McGuire and Floyd McGuire and her sister, Barbara Williams. Agnes was a true matriarch of her family. She loved “her people”.
