Helen Marie Hayes

Helen Marie (an only child) was born April 4, 1921 in Okmulgee County to Hester Helen (Augden) and George Sibley Runyon, died December 30, 2015. After graduating from Muskogee High School in 1939 and attending Draughon's Business College, Helen was employed as a clerk/typist with The Civil Service Commission in Washington, D.C. for five years during World War II. On July 1, 1945 she and Merle Dean Parkhurst were married there, later residing in Okmulgee for five years. In 1945, the couple moved to Eufaula where they established Dean's Cleaners which was in operation until his death February 16, 1977. Helen and Dean were licensed real estate Brokers and partners in D&H Real Estate. She had already established "Draperies by Helen" which she operated until retiring in 1982. Helen and Oliver Paul Hayes were united in marriage on September 23, 1978 when they moved to the Longtown area. Paul proceeded Helen in death April 1, 1988. Helen had been a member of the First United Methodist Church since 1951. Her activities included the choir, adult Sunday school, Church Historian and Administrative Council.
